LACUNA FESTIVAL: DISTANCE 2021
THE FESTIVAL INVITED ARTISTS TO EXPLORE THE MANY MEANINGS OF DISTANCE
Lacuna Festivals: Distance 2021 was an international contemporary art festival held in the Canary Islands, Spain, from 2 July to 1 August 2021. The festival brought together artists from different countries and artistic disciplines around the theme of “Distance.”
The theme invited artists to explore the many meanings of distance, including physical and emotional separation, journeys, migration, communication, barriers, and the distances between different experiences and perceptions. This broad interpretation allowed participating artists to approach the subject from diverse artistic perspectives.
Lacuna Festivals is an independent, artist-led contemporary art initiative created to support artists, encourage creative exchange, and develop new ways of presenting and experiencing contemporary art. The 2021 festival included both online presentations and physical exhibitions, creating opportunities for artists and audiences to connect through different exhibition formats.
The photography series We Are Nature I by Nikolay Vlahov was selected to participate in the 2021 edition of Lacuna Festivals: Distance, becoming part of this international artistic programme.
