CIRCLE OF LIGHT: HALOS IN CONTEMPORARY ART

Circle of Light: Halos in Contemporary Art is an online group exhibition bringing together 37 contemporary artworks that explore the enduring symbolism of the halo.

Historically associated with divinity, purity, spiritual significance, and importance, the halo has become one of the most recognisable symbols in art. In contemporary practice, artists reinterpret this ancient visual element in new and unexpected ways, using it to communicate ideas ranging from spirituality and identity to emotion, transformation, and perception.

The exhibition offers an opportunity to consider how the meaning of the halo changes when it is removed from its traditional religious context and incorporated into contemporary visual language. Particularly in portraiture, the halo can alter the viewer's perception of a subject, suggesting reverence, mystery, power, vulnerability, or a connection to something beyond the ordinary.

Among the 37 selected works is my digitally manipulated collage, Realm in Light, included in the exhibition’s exploration of the halo in contemporary art.
